Two mobile service provider executives detained for online fraud – The New Indian Express

CUTTACK: The Cuttack Police Cyber ​​Police Station on Thursday arrested two officials of a mobile service provider for providing activated SIM cards to fraudsters. The arrested duo – Susanta Kumar Behera and Sankar Das Adhikari – worked as Jio’s deputy manager and office manager in Basta. Both are in their thirties.

DCP Prateek Singh said 66-year-old Dr Laydeb Jena working as a visiting professor at Ravenshaw University filed a complaint alleging he received a phone call from an unknown person posing as for a BSNL head office official to update KYC of their mobile number. For this purpose, he asked Jena to download “Team Viewer App” and call SMS auto forwarding app from playstore and then pay Rs 10 online. Believing in her version, Jena followed the instructions only to lose Rs 3,99,996 from her account without her knowledge.

During the investigation through a technical analysis of the detailed call records, IMEI and CAF, it was discovered that Susanta, who worked as an assistant manager in Jio’s office in Basta, had activated the SIM card and committed cybercrime. The accused managed to obtain the MPIN number from SBI Yono App and OTP and committed financial fraud.

“Further investigation revealed that Susant and one of his managers Adhikari (co-defendant) engaged in supplying huge amount of pre-activated SIM cards to fraudsters from Jamtara and Deoghar Gang in Jharkhand and of Bihar,” the DCP said.

Both were apprehended. A Jio Lyf SIM activation mobile, 242 pre-activated Jio SIM cards, 6 pre-activated VI SIM cards, 34 pre-activated BSNL SIM cards, three Android mobile phones were seized in their possession, he informed .
