Tiptree Butchers Launch Mobile Shop For Customers
A well-established butcher’s shop turned adversity into triumph with the launch of a mobile service.
Millin’s of Tiptree was founded in 1969 as a traditional family butcher’s shop and is highly regarded in the community.
However, during the lockdown, butchers received requests for more home deliveries.
Butchers started delivering more days for people who couldn’t or felt unsafe to leave their homes.
The mobile warehouse truck was started with this in mind and has grown steadily.
G Millin and Sons spokesperson Charlotte Abrehart said: “We’ve been going for five months now and have several repeat customers, but we see new faces all the time.”
The mobile store offers a range of fresh meats as well as ready meals, groceries and, for the most part, sausage rolls and pies to customers in and around the village.
If customers need something specific, they can call or email the main store in Church Road and the staff will make it available to them.
“Lucy drives the mobile store and has done an amazing job planning the routes and routes we take,” Charlotte said.
“But it’s really a team effort to prepare the products and have the truck full of nice goods on those days.”
It runs every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with three different routes.
The van is in Feering and Kelvedon on Wednesdays, Tolleshunt Knights, Tolleshunt D’Arcy, Layer-de-la-Haye and Birch on Thursdays and Little Totham, Wickham Bishops and Great Totham on Fridays.
Charlotte added, “We are proud of the public response to our mobile store and have received numerous comments, emails and calls to let us know how much people appreciate this service. ”
Customers can follow the van’s live location at millinsoftiptree.co.uk/mobile-shop-truck.
There is also a food truck that delivers to offices and businesses on weekdays.
