Telecom companies likely to launch 5G mobile service in 2022-23: minister
Telecom service providers are expected to launch 5G mobile service in the current fiscal year 2022-23, State Minister for Communications Devusinh Chauhan said on Wednesday.
“The Department of Telecommunications void notification dated June 15, 2022 has already initiated the spectrum auction process in 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, 3300 MHz, and the 26 GHz bands which include the spectrum required for the launch of 5G services,” Chauhan said in a written response to a question to Lok Sabha, Chauhan.
On the first day of Tuesday’s auction, the Department received total bids worth Rs 1.45 lakh crore.
Chauhan said the Ministry of Telecommunications has amended the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program guidelines for the manufacture of telecommunications and networking products to facilitate design-driven manufacturing of 5G products in the country.
One of the changes is to offer a 1% higher incentive for products that meet design-based criteria.
The application window opened from June 21, 2022 to August 5, 2022. In addition to current LIP beneficiaries, 26 national/multinational companies have expressed interest as of July 21, 2022, the Minister said.
