A 16-year-old boy was shot dead in a mobile phone shop in Rahatani in Pimpri Chinchwad on Sunday evening. The deceased, Owaiz Isaq Inamdar (16), resided in Kalewadi.
His father, Isaq Ismail Inamdar (40), filed the FIR in this case at the Wakad police station in the early hours of Monday.
Within hours, a team from the Wakad Police Station arrested the alleged assailant, Kiran Shivaji Wasre (25), a resident of JK Labor Camp in Rahatni.
Police said Isaq’s uncle ran a mobile store in Shivajinagar in the Rahatni region. At 9 p.m. on Sunday, while Isaq was in the store, the defendant Kiran came as a customer to purchase a mobile charging cord, police said.
Kiran was carrying a pistol and Isaq questioned him about it, police said, adding that Isaq also asked Kiran to leave the store immediately, otherwise he would notify the police.
But Kiran opened fire on Isaq and a bullet went through Isaq’s chest, killing him instantly, police said.
After receiving information about the incident, police officers from Pimpri Chinchwad attended the scene of the crime.
Acting on intelligence given to police officer Bapusaheb Bhumal, police set a trap and arrested Kiran at a location near the Tim Luck Luck Hotel on Monday.
He was brought before a court in Pimpri, which took him into police custody for six days for further investigation. An investigation is underway to recover the pistol used to commit the crime, police said.
