NCA orders mobile service providers to refrain from spamming consumers
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has sent a directive to mobile network operators, value-added service providers and content aggregators to refrain from sending unsolicited messages and calls to consumers.
The Authority wants consumers to report to their service provider any message received to which they have not consented.
The Authority is also reportedly developing a no-text/call (DNT/C) portal for subscribers to report and submit details of their complaints.

According to the Authority, it had noted with great concern complaints about the wave of unwanted calls and text messages sent to consumers.
He advised service providers to ensure that subscriptions to these services are a two-step process, adding that proof of consumer consent must be kept.
The NCA said it had previously ordered MNOs, VASPs and content aggregators to cease all automatic/consentless consumer subscriptions and to immediately reduce the transmission of all UEC and other marketing messages.
