Meena Bazar launches mobile store for Gulshan-Banani
The mobile store sells basic groceries as well as fresh vegetables and fruits
Meena Bazar, one of the country’s largest supermarket chains, launched its second mobile store on Tuesday for customers in the capital’s Gulshan-Banani area.
The mobile store will sell basic groceries as well as fresh vegetables and fruits.
It’s serving customers close to home at a reasonable price, without having to pay value added tax (VAT) on their purchases.
The first mobile store was launched on April 29 in Dhanmondi.
After receiving a positive response from consumers, the second was introduced in the Gulshan-Banani area, authorities at the supermarket chain said.
The initiative aims to make life easier for people looking to shop near their doorstep while the city, like the rest of the country, remains closed amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Customers prefer the mobile store to purchase hygiene products, while adhering to social distancing guidelines.
âThis is a service to the community of Meena Bazar. Considering the inconvenience for people in the midst of the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we launched the mobile store to bring our service to people’s doors so they don’t have to go anywhere to buy essentials, âMeena Bazar CEO Shaheen Khan told Dhaka Tribune.
The mobile store offers basic groceries, including puffed rice, lentils, and cooking oil. Fresh vegetables and fruits are also available at reasonable prices, Shaheen adds.
âAs it is closer to homes and more convenient, we are getting a good response from consumers,â he added.
Private service incumbent Jahangir Alom, a buyer from Banani (in front of Star Kabab), said âI am comfortable shopping here due to their strict application of hygiene standards, product varieties and discount cards “.
Another customer said: âThe shop is hygienic and we don’t have to pay VAT either. “
Mesbah Uddin, a sales manager at Meena Bazar mobile store, said: âWe have 38 basic grocery items including rice, lentils, fresh vegetables and fruits, cooking oil. We will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
