Cubic Wins “Mobile App Innovation of the Year” Award in 6th Annual Mobile Breakthrough Awards Program | New

SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nov. 15, 2022–

Cubic Transport Systems (CTS) a division of cubic societywas voted “Mobile App Innovation of the Year” for the second consecutive year as part of the 6th annual Mobile Breakthrough Awards program organized by Mobile Breakthrougha leading independent market intelligence organization that recognizes the best companies, technologies and products in the global wireless and mobile market today.

Cubic Mobile for Travelers is an engaging cross-platform mobile app designed for transit agency passengers. The platform offers multimodal mobile ticketing; supports NFC, BLE, barcodes, visual motion pictures and QR codes; is designed with full account management; and comes with in-app refills. Additionally, the mobile solution includes smart trip planning, an option to provide agency branding, and is cross-functional with Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Cubic has teamed up with Apple and Google to create a digital transit card partnership.

During the brainstorming process, Cubic understood the benefits of transit card digitization such as customer convenience, instant delivery of credits/passes, in-wallet functionality, and user-friendly COVID-19 support for hands-free operation.

These digital transport cards are smart cards and present an alternative to the use of contactless bank cards. The product allows customers to acquire their new digital travel cards, top up and purchase tickets without going to a ticket kiosk or vending machine. Unlike traditional barcode and SMS mobile ticketing solutions, contactless digital card solutions allow customers and agencies to retain the benefits of NFC ticketing while on the go.

“We are very grateful that Mobile Breakthrough shares our view that this innovation is a real breakthrough for transportation worldwide. At Cubic Transportation Systems, we believe that taking the right path sometimes means creating it. That’s why we don’t stop at revolutionizing the transportation industry; we are committed to reinventing it,” said Jeff Lowinger, president of Cubic Transportation Systems. “We set out to be a leading integrator of payment and information solutions and related services for smart travel applications in the transportation industry. We want to provide travelers with tools to enable them to choose the smarter and easier way to travel and pay for their journeys, while enabling transport authorities and agencies to manage demand across the entire transport network, all in real time.

The mission of the annual Mobile Breakthrough Awards is to honor excellence and recognize innovation, hard work and success in a range of mobile and wireless technology categories, including cloud computing, mobile management, wireless and broadband, mobile analytics, IoT and smart city and many more. All entries were evaluated by an independent panel of wireless industry experts.

“The pandemic has changed the way people perceive public transport. Paying for public transit and queuing at confusing payment kiosks is a thing of the past. Riders now expect contactless options and a frictionless process. Reliable contactless payment options enhance the passenger experience by making payment faster, easier and more convenient,” said James Johnson, Managing Director of Mobile Breakthrough. “These digital cards stand out from the cluttered wireless and mobile phone industry because they eliminate multiple touch points for passengers, providing them with a more secure way to pay for their rides and providing a seamless customer experience, ensuring an increased level of flexibility and efficiency that reduces barriers to travel. Congratulations on winning the “Mobile App Innovation of the Year” award.

Last year, the Cubic team rolled out digital versions of TAP maps of Los Angeles, Ventra of Chicago, Clipper of San Francisco, and SmarTrip of Washington DC for iOS and Android.
