Anurag Thakur presents a mobile application to reserve parking spaces online in Delhi

In a one-of-a-kind initiative, the Union’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, on Thursday 14 October launched a mobile application called the “MyParkings app”, which helps people reserve their parking spaces. online in areas under the jurisdiction of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).

With the launch of this application, the government intends to tackle the problem of vehicle parking congestion. It will provide information on the total capacity of vehicles to park, spaces used and space available for parking at each site, India Today reported.

Anurag Thakur said that launching the “MyParking” app would help ease the process of reserving parking spaces. People can check the availability of slots remotely and can even book the same slots at their fingertips.

New parking experience for people

“This app would provide a whole new parking experience for Delhites. MyParking, which involves a cashless and paperless transaction mode, will save tons of paper on a daily basis. This, in turn, will indirectly save trees, help to reduce environmental pollution, “says Thakur.

The SDMC operates 145 surface car parks in its four zones, in addition to six multi-level car parks and two automated car parks. Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) will bear the full cost of application development and maintenance, the investment cost of the server, as well as the associated hardware and software.

The “MyParking” app will also be integrated with the Vahan app, FASTag, E-Challan and other government initiatives. In addition, BECIL will also set up and manage a call center dedicated to residents as a customer service unit to answer their questions and problems related to the use of the application. The call center will review complaints and grievances.

BECIL will charge a percentage of the parking fees only to people using the application and the BECIL web / tech platforms to make the payment of the parking fees. The app will be available for free download on Android and iOS platforms.

What will the application provide?

The app will offer various features including on-site and advance vehicle parking reservations, flexibility to select slots through an easy-to-use mobile app, parking solution activated with prepaid / chip cards, the option of paperless check-in and check-out of vehicles, shared parking for security and reminder, display of amenities and facilities in and near the parking lot.
