Altice USA, Inc. ATUS recently rebranded its national mobile service dubbed Altice Mobile to Optimum Mobile, as part of its efforts to align all services under a single national Optimum brand. The business rebranding exercise is likely to better reflect business goals and provide seamless connectivity to all users.

Altice launched its mobile services in 2019 under a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement with the former Sprint. This allowed the cable operator to offer mobile wireless services using Sprint’s communications network infrastructure without actually being liable for it. With the merger of Sprint and T-Mobile US, Inc. TMUS, nearly all of Altice’s existing MVNO subscribers have migrated to Altice’s network, providing customers with nationwide wireless coverage on one of the largest and fastest 5G networks.

The company currently operates in 21 states across the country, under the Optimum brand in the New York tri-state region and Suddenlink in the western and mid-Atlantic states. With mobile rebranding, Altice aims to offer a unified wireless service to strengthen its corporate brand identity. The rebranded Optimum Mobile offers a plethora of attractive wireless plans to provide more choice and flexibility to choose and switch between plans at no additional cost. Customers will receive exclusive benefits and additional discounts if they choose an integrated offering of the company’s broadband connectivity services and Optimum Mobile, with the option to cancel the plan at any time.

Mobile service is a network of networks that provides advanced long-term coverage (LTE) by combining the company’s fiber and mobile infrastructure with the T-Mobile network. The company also has a roaming agreement with AT&T Inc. T LTE networks offer 99% nationwide coverage and offer a single plan with unlimited nationwide data, texting and chat, a mobile hotspot, video streaming, international texting and chats in more from 35 countries, including Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Israel.

Altice has stepped up the pace of its network deployments. It is experiencing good customer penetration dynamics, generally reaching around 40% in the year following deployment in new construction areas. The company saw strong demand for its broadband service in the first quarter of 2021 with a 39% year-over-year increase in average data usage per customer. Customer-only broadband usage averaged 613 GB per month. The company has accelerated the rollout of 1 gigabyte speeds, which are currently available in over 92% of its geographic footprint.

At the end of the first quarter of 2021, Altice was covering more than one million homes with fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology. The company remains optimistic about the future of its FTTH deployment initiatives and believes the FTTH network will be more resilient with reduced maintenance requirements and lower power consumption. Altice is building a fiber network to deliver broadband speeds of up to 10 Gbps, underscoring its investment in the technology.

The stock has gained 40.7% in the past year compared to industryrally of 40.1%.
