4 detained for breaking into a mobile store, stealing phones worth 7.99 lakh | Bombay News
Four people were arrested Thursday by Kurla police for breaking into a mobile phone store and stealing 62 valuable mobile phones and accessories ??7.99 lakh. The four defendants, all residents of Dharavi, including one with a criminal history, broke into the store on Sunday evening.
The accused arrested are Shafiullah Atiullah Ansari, 24; Zulfikar Ali Haidar Shaikh, 35; Atif Asif Khan, 20; and Ayan Rafi Alam Shaikh alias Ishan alias Bitu, 28 years old. According to Kurla Police, Shafiullah has already registered a case of cell theft against him at the Vasai Police Station. Police suspect the other three have joined Shafiullah to earn some quick cash.
According to the police, Zulfikar is a professional driver, Atif a designer of gold jewelry, while Ayan was a cell phone repairer and knew how to change the International Mobile Equipment Identity Number (IMEI).
Police said they broke the locks of the Kurla (west) store using a gas cutter and stole the phones, and they also took the DVR which allegedly stored the CCTV camera footage to avoid ‘be detected.
“We scanned the CCTV camera images of those available in the area and found that the accused had used two bicycles, on the basis of which we followed the accused and arrested them,” said Dattatray Shinde, inspector. principal of the Kurla police station.
Police recovered the accused’s 62 cell phones.
